Scope note

This is an artificially created small collection that draws together in one place a quantity of published articles, news clippings and ephemera that had been compiled over the years as research files in the offices of the California Ethnic and Multicultural Archives.  It does not purport to be a representative collection. It is housed in four document boxes and spans the years 1974-2001. Various California based Chicano artists and visual arts centers are represented here. Included are articles that were published in un-indexed Latino community newspapers, as well as those appearing in major regional newspapers, art magazines, journals, and various anthologies and exhibition catalogues. There are interviews with artists such as Guillermo Gomez Peña, Ester Hernández and Yolanda López as well as coverage of art groups such as the Mujeres Muralistas.  There is sparse documentation in published form for the latter.   For more in depth information researchers are advised to consult the guides to the various collections on Chicano visual art located in the CEMA Web site at http://www.library.ucsb.edu/speccoll/cema/cema.html.
